TBILISI - SIGNAGI - MTSKHENA - TBILISI

Visit to Tbilisi, the first capital of Georgia - Mtskheta. After that we go to Eastern Georgia - Kakheti, where we will visit the cathedral of Alaverdi, the city of Signaghi and the Bodby monastery.

Day 1

Arrival in Tbilisi. Transfer to the hotel.

Visiting the sights of Tbilisi.

Our first acquaintance with the beautiful capital of Georgia includes a sightseeing tour of the historic center of Tbilisi.

We begin with an sightseeing of Metekhi Church (XIII century).

Continue up the cable car to the fortress of Narikala - the heart of the city of Tbilisi. Enjoy the picturesque view of the Botanical Garden of the city.

We will also have the opportunity to enjoy the waterfall in the Old Town, beautiful buildings that are built on the edge of the cliff and visit the famous Abanotubani district ("bath area") with sulfur springs.

Acquaintance with the Old Town continues with a walk along the street of Sharden. The street is named after the French traveler and writer Jean Chardin. Continuing our tour, we will visit the cathedral "Sioni".

After that, we will visit the church of the VI century - Anchiskhati, the oldest building in Tbilisi, which has survived to this day.

Dinner.

After lunch, we climb the cable car to Mount Mtatsminda, from where a wonderful panoramic view of the city opens.

Free evening.

Return to the hotel.

 

Day 2

Breakfast.

After breakfast we go to the biggest region of eastern Georgia - Kakheti.

We visit the cathedral of the XI century Alaverdi. The height of the cathedral is about 50 m, before the construction of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi, Alaverdi was the highest church in Georgia. The cathedral has preserved the murals of the 15th century.

Lunch in a wine house in the village of Velestsikhe.

After lunch - the city of Signaghi.

A small cozy town in eastern Georgia, located on the mountainside in the historical region of Kakheti. The city was founded in the 17th century under the reign of King Irakli II and, as the locals say, is the only city in Georgia that completely preserved the fortress walls.

In continuation we go to the Bodbe monastery, which occupies a significant place in the spiritual life of Georgia.

The reason is that here is the educator of Georgians, Saint Nina.

Return to Tbilisi.

 

Day 3

Breakfast.

After breakfast, we will visit the ancient capital of Georgia, the city of Mtskheta, where we will tour the cathedral  Svetitskhoveli. The cathedral houses 4 Christian relics and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Dinner.

After lunch we go to the monastery of the 6th-7th centuries, "Jvari" ("Cross"), which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. We will climb the mountain and enjoy the beautiful  view, where the two rivers Aragvi and Mtkvari merge:

Return to Tbilisi.

BATUMI - KUTAISI - BATUMI

2 nights/3 days

Visiting of Batumi. Free time at sea. The next day, moving to Kutaisi. Visit to the Bagrat temple, the caves of Prometheus and the reserve Sataplia. Return to Batumi.

Day 2

11:40 Kutaisi, formerly the ancient capital of the Colchis and Imeretian kingdoms. Today is the second largest city in Georgia. Kutaisi is located in the valley of the Rioni River, on the Colchis lowland. Visit to the Gelati  Monastery which  is a beautifully restored outstanding monument of Georgian architecture, the center of spiritual and scientific life of the Middle Ages, a burial vault of Georgian kings, a cult place for pilgrims. It is located 11 km from the city of Kutaisi and is protected by UNESCO as an object of cultural and historical world heritage.

12:40 Visiting the Bagrat temple - built in the 10th-11th centuries, during the reign of the Georgian king Bagrat III (975-1014), the founder of the great clan of the princes Bagrationi.

14:00 - 15:00 Lunch in Kutaisi

15:10 - 16:00 The cave of Prometheus (Kumistavi) is the largest cave in Georgia. Inside there are underground lakes and rivers, there is very high humidity and there are bats that, however, do not bother tourists, because they fly very high.

16:10 - 17:10 The reserve Sataplia is a corner of prehistoric nature with relic forests, labyrinths of karst caves and even petrified traces of dinosaurs that lived in these places in the Mesozoic era 160 million years ago.

19:40 A walk on the cable car in Batumi.

20:30 Dinner at the restaurant "Sevan"

Arrival in Kutaisi. Visit to the Bagrat temple. Depending on the arrival time - the reserve Sataplia and cave Prometheus. The next day departure to Batumi, visit the Ajarian wine house with wine tasting. Free time at sea.

Walking through the old city of Tbilisi. On the second day visit the cave city of the XII century Vardzia and the fortress of Rabat. Moving to Borjomi. Also a visit to the first capital of Georgia - the city of Mtskheta. In the city there is an inspection of the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where 4 Christian relics are kept.

Day 1

Arrival to Tbilisi airport. Depending on the time - walk through the old city, climb the cable car to Mtatsminda Mountain, from where you can see a wonderful panoramic view of the city. Check in at the hotel "Natali Hotel".

12:30 - Visit to the cave city of the 12th century Vardzia. The city was created in the XII - XIII centuries during the reign of George III and his daughter Queen Tamara to protect the southern borders of Georgia. Vardzia is not just a cave room, chaotically dug in a steep rock. This is a real multi-storey (!) Complex with streets, tunnels and stairs leading past monasteries, temples, fortresses, baths, libraries, residential buildings, etc.

14:30 Lunch at a restaurant on the banks of the Mtkvari.

16:30 Visit to the medieval  fortress of Rabat in the city of Akhaltsikhe.

18:30 Check-in at the Hotel Villa Likani.

Day 3

11:40 The first capital of Georgia is Mtskheta. Such a number of holy and cult places, as in Mtskheta, located 10 km from Tbilisi, is no more in all Georgia. For this the ancient city is called the "Second Jerusalem". Inspection of Svetitskhoveli  Cathedral. The opportunity to purchase different Georgian sweets, spices and souvenirs.

13: 00-14: 00 Lunch at a restaurant near Mtskheta.

14:30 - The monastery of Jvari, immortalized in literature by Mikhail Lermontov (the poem "Mtsyri"), is the oldest cult monument built at the dawn of Georgian Christianity in the 6th century.

16:00 - Transfer to Tbilisi, the Sioni Church, the park of Europe with the glass bridge of the World, climbing the cable car to the Narikala fortress and walking along the street  Shardeni.

After - shopping in the shopping center and transfer to the airport.
